2017 Theological Essay Contest: “Defending your opponent’s view”. Prizes offered! Last couple days to participate!
For the lazy:
The Reformed Subreddit community is pleased to announce the 2017 Theological Essay Contest with the top prize of an Amazon Gift Card Code worth $100 USD
This year’s theme is, “Can you defend your opponent’s theology better than they?” It has been said that part of being intellectually honest is possessing the ability to explain an opponent’s position in such a way that they can say, “Yes! Your explanation not only describes my position accurately and fairly, but better than I could have said it.” Here on /r/reformed, we engage in good conversation from time to time, but the best conversation occurs when we know how to articulate the position of our opponents accurately, and this is the spirit of this year’s essay contest.
The guidelines for this contest:
You will submit a well-formatted, self-post to /r/reformed with “[Essay Contest 2017]” included in the title defending a theological position which you do not agree with.
Essay should be no longer than 1200 words. We encourage you to economize on every sentence.
Primary and secondary citations are encouraged.
Judging will be assessed by the moderators on three dimensions:
- The accuracy of the position defended
- The persuasiveness in voice and tone in which your paper is written
- Your charitable and personal reflection on the defended position
Deadline for entry is close of business June 22nd.
Winner and runners up will be announced in the beginning of July.
- Winner will receive an Amazon Claim Code worth $100 USD (no personal information required).
- Runner up will receive a custom flair designed by /u/friardon.
Thank you. We hope this will be fun and encouraging to the community, and as John Calvin would say, Good Luck!
