Congratulations to the winners of the 2017 Summer Essay Contest!

This year /r/reformed held its first, summer essay contest. The theme was "defending your opponent's view" in the spirit of learning better how to articulate the position of our opponents as a mark of intellectual honesty and charity.

We had 8 entries submitted in the form of text posts to our sub. All entries were assessed on three dimensions on a scale of 0-10: (1) Accuracy of content, (2) Persuasiveness, and (3) Essayist's personal and charitable reflection on the topic.

The scores were incredibly close — among the top essays there were no landslides to be found. Here are the results of the 2017 /r/reformed essay contest.

Third Place: A defense of kenotic Christology by /u/Clive_Staples_Lewis

Second Place: Parliamentarians in the First English Civil War 1642-46 were justified in their armed resistance of Charles I. by /u/RaucousElephant

First Place: Veneration and Intercession of the Saints /u/ClarenceColton

Congratulations to our winners! Second place winner receives a tricked-out and custom flair designed by /u/friardon, and our First place winner receives $100.00USD of Amazon Credit. /u/ClarenceColton, please PM me, /u/BishopOfReddit to claim your code.

We would like thank everyone who participated, and we are hoping we can up the ante next year!
