Has a gift to a family member turned into a burden for you?

My mom celebrated her birthday last month. One of her friends gifted her with a book that claims to "reveal the secrets" of the book of revelation. Now I understand this gift was given with good intentions, but you can probably see the problem with it.

As you can imagine this book is going to be filled with heresy and false teachings. I googled the author and I have no idea what denomination he is, so i'm guessing non-denominationional or something else.

I had a quick look through the book and decided to check out what is says about the mark of the beast since this will give me a good idea what kind of book this is. And sure enough, it says stuff about chips being implanted into humans etc. So now I know this book is a piece of crap.

My mom is a lifelong christian and knows her bible, but she said It's an interesting book and that I should read it when she is finished. Now I feel I have to read that piece of crap so I can discuss any false teachings my mom might have picked up from it, if any.

Has something similar ever happened to any of you?
