Honest question: Why does God require glory?

I posted here about a week ago about how I was confused and doubting. Your answers and replies helped a lot, and after beginning to search for answers my faith is starting to be built up again. I've listened to a couple good lectures on New Testament reliability, one from Dr. James White and one from Dr. Michael Kruger (as suggested by my pastor). Both have helped a lot, in the very least showing me that there definitely are reasonable and reliable answers to our faith. I've also listened to some of Jeff Durbins "presuppositional apologetics" and have done some research on the argument of morality which has also helped.

As I mentioned before I have always been convinced of a god and whenever I strongly doubt it's usually a matter of whether or not I can trust that the God of the Bible is indeed the one true God. As I have begun more research and study, for now I am realizing we have solid ground for our faith and there are answers out there, which is very encouraging. My faith in Yahweh as true God is definitely being restored.

I am now seeing (again) that the evidence reveals that God is the God as revealed through Scripture. So here's the biggest question Ive been having recently…

So from what I know God created the world for his glory, created man to be his representative in the world as his image bearer and servant, and decreed all things to take place, setting in motion and carrying to completion the gospel story in order to make known his power, majesty, forgiveness and mercy. But if God is already perfect, eternally self sufficient and forever in perfect unity as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, why did he create us? I've always heard he created us for his glory, but why would he need to or want to manifest that glory if he was already perfect to begin with? Does scripture tell us anything of his reasoning? Or are we just to take his word for it?

What do you think?
