Is it normal for Reformed churches to only offer communion sporadically, like once a month instead of every Sunday?

Having been raised Catholic, it was always normal for me that Eucharist was offered at every mass, on Sundays and during the week. Having been to Episcopal and Luther services a number of times, this was the case there too (at least for Sunday services since I never went during the week). The same in a Presbyterian church I sometimes go to. I learned recently that some churches (or all?) of the Reformed Church in America (Dutch Reformed) only offer communion sporadically, like once a month and during special events. Is this the norm in most Reformed churches? How come? And do most Presbyterian churches do it weekly or sporadically?

For me the Eucharist is very important (even if it’s merely symbolic vis-à-vis trans/consubstantiation). Why would churches not offer it at every service? That’s kind of a bummer for me.
