Passing of the peace

Does your church do the "passing of the peace" thing, where the pastor gives people permission to walk around and shake hands (and chit-chat) in the middle of the service? My church does this; my mom's church (that I was raised in) does this. Both Baptist. I also did a practicum at a Methodist Church for my bachelors and they did it. I don't like it (1) because of my personality type. I hate small talk. (2) It takes away from our focus towards god, IMO. What do you all think? Does your church practice this? Do you know of any that do?
