Pastors and Elders of the Church, how do you handle Church discipline?
I would like to give a personal example from my Church. We had a husband both had been married 3 times (husband divorced due to abuse of his previous 2 wives) and the wife (divorced due to "falling out of love" and 2nd time was from husband passing away). Now he abused here we could see the black eyes and stuff and the congregation did nothing about it. People in their Sunday school did nothing about it. Then one night he threw up on a table and started choking her and pointed a gun at her head. Luckily she had her purse near her and pepper sprayed him. She left for one of our fellow members home and he was arrested, on "aggravated assault". She got a restraining order against him.
Now some people in the Church have taken sides one thinks the husband should work out his anger and repent. Other members think the wife should just suck it up and provide for the husband and his needs, so this thing won't happen.
Our lead Pastor just told all of our deacons and ushers to be on the look out for him and not to allow him into the church anymore, because the husband has made more threats on his life.
How would you handle this situation and taking away this specific example what would the typical model of Church discipline look like?
