Prior to Jesus’s coming, could it be known that the Messiah would be God Himself?

I mean, certainly the prophecies now only make sense if they're fulfilled by God in the flesh, but did any prophecies explicitly link the coming Messiah with deity? Or would it have been a speculative theory based on careful study?

Should it have beeen clear to the Jews that Jesus was not only the Promised One but also God in the flesh?
