Reformed Theology Question from a Lutheran. Calvinism
Question from a Lutheran.

Why do so many Calvinist preachers these days, such as Paul Washer and John Macarthur, emphasize the law as opposed to the gospel so much? it seems like they emphasize God's holiness and hatred towards sin in order to be "edgy" as opposed to actually edifying their congregation. They always seem to add just a dash of the gospel, but they never preach it in order to comfort the consciences of the Christian. Additionally, they sometimes encourage Christians to actually question if they're "truly saved"!

Could you really imagine Jesus asking the thief on the cross this?:

THIEF: Remember me when I come into your kingdom

JESUS: Are your affections changed? do you sensitive to sin? Do you want to please God? Do you truly fear God?

it just doesn't seem biblical at all 🙁
