How few are the few?

One of the most frightening areas of scripture concerns the narrow gate. Just how few are the few? Is it relative? Relative to what? Relative to the world? Or relative to those who would actually think themselves Christians? It is nightmarish to ponder.

Reformed Theology What exactly is the “world” we’re not supposed to love? Calvinism
What exactly is the “world” we’re not supposed to love?

“Neither anything that is in the world.”

My kids are in the world. A steak is in the world. A sunset is in the world. My job is in the world. My pastor is in the world. So just what is meant by the world and anything in it? This is a high stakes question – John says that the love of God is not in us if we get it wrong.

What does John mean when he says refers to the “world?”

Becoming Irked with Piper’s Style

I find Piper’s question and answer style somewhat evasive and accusatory. Every time I click on a video of his, I come out with assurance shattered. I feel like he often avoids tackling questions head on, and instead opts for attacking the motives of the asker. It’s like he’ll imply that I don’t love God enough if I dare to ask whether it is ok to watch an episode of Seinfeld. Am I seeing it wrong?

As a Christian already struggling hard with assurance and forgiveness, I just find most of Piper’s videos only serve to make me more confused about my standing. I haven’t seen much edifying material from him. Ok, sure, he’s big on the fact that we are to have joy in Christ, I get it, but it’s hard to experience joy when your might be going to hell for chuckling at the Pensky File. Anyone else?
