Raccoon Prayers

The raccoon(s) that participated in shredding the insulation on my garage door and knocking over a bunch stuff in the garage could use some prayer as to what I'm going to do to them when I catch them…

Seriously, though, this week is the planned week to get back to installing flooring. Today after work, actually. Now we have to catch (and release) the raccoons that have been rampaging around our house for weeks. And they somehow managed to remove and hide my garage door's "auto reverse" box so I have to physically hold the button the whole time to get the door down. And there is big mess to clean up.

I do not handle stress terribly well. I strive to reduce stress in my life so I'm halfway decent usually. Prayers that I be slow to anger would be appreciated. Also, my wife is experiencing a lot of morning sickness and food aversion stuff recently, so if you are inclined to pray about that or the continued well-being of our pea-sized baby, it would also be appreciated.

Note: if I could find the weekly prayer request thread this would have gone there but there are too many stickies.

Lunch Hospitality

Within the last month I resolved to always be ready to invite a visitor at church over for lunch. Having just yesterday gotten back from a week away, there is not much of anything in the fridge.

While we do have many freezer meals, none of them will thaw quickly enough for lunch today, so I am wondering what solutions you folks may have. Please keep in mind that going out to eat or buying groceries is not acceptable.

Other thoughts are welcome, but I am specifically looking for recommendations towards:

  • Some sort of "dry soup mix" that could be ready within 45 minutes of getting home from church

    • Secondary thought: these things seem pretty expensive in stores. Is it reasonable to make them yourself?
  • A freezer meal that could similarly go from frozen to table within 45 minutes

  • A decent meal that could be made within 45 minutes from ingredients with a fairly long shelf life in the fridge

In case there any new readers, I will give a general rundown of Skill offerings available for Amazon's Alexa.

  • Renewing Your Mind – 5 stars – Ligonier Ministries – new – provides direct access to Renewing Your Mind, a daily audio program committed to faithfully presenting the unvarnished truth of Scripture…

  • Luther's Small Catechism – 5 stars – it is geared towards Lutheran things, but can be asked the commandments and their meaning.

  • Bible – 4 stars – Life.Church – Can set preferred translation, basically works like /u/versebot, a personal favorite.

  • Spurgeon's Devotional – 3.5 stars – will read you the current devotional from Spurgeon's Morning and Evening.

  • SermonAudio Radio Stream – 4 stars – 24×7 SermonAudio Radio Stream on your Alexa device – reportedly not working lately.

  • Refnet Christian Radio – 3 stars – 24-hour Christian internet radio featuring biblical preaching and teaching – reportedly not working since December.

  • Dozens of other Bible apps that you may want to explore.

And yesterday I made my own Alexa Bible skill, which is still under review. It is surprisingly easy to set up and make an Alexa skill. I am looking forward to making one out of /u/standardsbot maybe next week, as long as /u/Nokeo08 doesn't mind.
