Thoughts on hymns with direct “quotations” from Christ

I've noticed a few hymns have sections that go something like "Jesus said 'X' " . The problem is that while X is completely theologically sound we have no record of Jesus ever saying X or anything similar. It doesn't seem right to me to be attributing fictious quotes to our Savior, especially during a worship service. Does/would this bother anyone else? Or is there something I'm missing? And yes I know that EP wouldn't have this problem.
